The Billfish Foundation

The Billfish Foundation (TBF) is the only non-profit organization dedicated solely to conserving and enhancing billfish populations around the world. If you enjoy offshore fishing, most likely you know The Billfish Foundation and the role it has played in reducing the recreational take of billfish since 1985. Today, they are researching the effects of plastic on pelagic ecosystems and will no doubt pursue meaningful projects to combat the plastic pollution

The Ocean Cleanup

Although this group is not based in our home waters, they are on the cutting edge of science-based solutions to the plastic problem plaguing our oceans. While other non-profits spend millions on R&D with no results, The Ocean Cleanup has developed and tested prototypes across the world.

North Carolina Watermen United

NCWU represents both recreational and commercial fishing interests in their mission to preserve the waterman way of life. You may be confused as to how support for local commercial fishermen helps preserve ocean habitat. After all, modern logic blames domestic commercial harvest for depleted global fish stocks. In reality, the American men and women who make their living on the water face some of the most stringent regulations and oversight in the world. America’s fisheries are among the most sustainable in the world, but the vast majority of the seafood we eat is imported from countries where illegal, unregulated, and unreported fishing (IUU) runs rampant. Driving American fishermen out of business only benefits overseas fish pirates. Every dollar to NCWU helps keep our domestic fleet afloat .
